04 about

I'm Ian Carter, a marriage and family therapist by trade. The 14 years I've practiced have brought me a wide variety of experiences, helping me to better define what I feel is my purpose in life. So, I asked myself, "Now that I have a better sense of intention, what do I want to do with that?"…and decided to change careers.

I've always dreamed big, maybe a little "head in the clouds" …I've craved the opportunity to be as imaginative and creative as possible with whatever I do with my life. Through the years, that desire has manifested itself through the medium of acting, painting, sculpting, writing, and now designing. As I continue to treat patients every day- human beings longing for answers to answerless questions, for ways to cope, painfully or joyfully stumbling down the different paths to being their truest and most authentic selves- something occurred to me. What I truly need to be doing, to make the impact I've dreamed about, is to bring therapy and art together. To change lives, heal, guide, and support my fellow humans through inspired, innovative, and artistic means- that’s my passion and purpose in life.
My goal is to start an interior design company where I transform everyday traditional or nontraditional spaces, rooms, and areas that are filled with the palpable feeling of loss, pain, and grief, into places that bring joy, a sense of purpose, and peace. Harmony… realized. I decided on the company name Turning Corners Interior Design when I gave this self-reflection a chance to really seed itself solidly in my life and sense that it's fitting with what I hope to achieve. I'm drawn towards contemporary, minimalistic, and industrial designs, but I can truly appreciate a cozy rustic farmhouse vibe, as well as my wife’s taste for an eclectic bohemian style space. Either way, the design is about you and bringing peace, joy, and harmony into your life. I want to make that happen; it’s time to turn some corners.
On a more personal note, I love traveling, exploring, and trying exciting new foods with my wife. I enjoy documentaries, painting, epoxy crafting, decorating, and taking walks in beautiful Prescott, AZ. I am also a devoted animal lover, blessed to have a ginger cat name Adam and a chihuahua/mini-pin dog named Stevie, who is wheelchair-bound, and they both add joy to my life every day.
